The team has worked in large international organizations (Siemens), small startups (Nuvve) and advised large international corporations (United Nations Development Programme). Work experiences includes USA, Europe, Asia and Australia.

We have been involved in industry leading E-Mobility and smart-grid projects and initiatives since 2011. The team has been a key driver of E-Mobility & Smart-Grid industry defining projects to propel the industry forward.

The evolution of V2X from 1996 to 2030.

Nikola project investigated the intelligent integration of EVs into the grid and categorized the potential services aggregated EVs can supply to the grid.

Parker project investigated how the technology can be scaled focusing on the technology, economics, markets and regulatory barriers. 

INVENT project (Intelligent Electric Vehicle Integration) funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC) is investigating how to pave the way for commercial EV fleet applications in California 

UNDP Namibia project was the first VGI project implemented in Africa. It showed that 2 Nissan Leafs with MagnumCap bidirectional chargers and a Nuvve aggregator could support Time-of-Use optimization, demand charge management and integration into UNDPs IT backend systems

Advanced Australian Vehicle-to-Grid project demonstrated how a Renault e-Kangoo could be upgraded to bidirectional power flow with Watt & Well inverter technology to provide both grid forming as well as grid following energy services based on the latest ISO 15118-20 and OCPP 2.0.1 standard protocols with Combined Changing System plugs (CCS). In addition it demonstrated how a “soft” highly accurate meter could be implemented in the EV. It showed that in only 8 months a standard EV could be upgraded to perform V2X services based on standard protocols.

Sep. 2016 - Commercial V2G operation deployed in Denmark

Through years of intensive dialog with Energinet (Danish TSO) we successfully achieved that Nuvve was qualified to bid on the Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR) service in the Danish Grid with its GIVe EV aggregation platform.

The FCR service  requires that the grid frequency is measured every second and corrective action is coordinated by the Nuvve aggregator to direct the aggregated EVs to charge or discharge energy to contain the frequency in a narrow band around 50 Hz.

On September 6, 2016 the world’s first Vehicle-to-Grid fully commercial deployment went live. The customer was Frederiksberg Forsyning (FF)  – a Danish utility company providing gas and electricity services to part of Copenhagen, Denmark. The partners in the project was Nissan, Enel and Nuvve.

The FF EV fleet consist of 10 e-nv 200 Nissan electric vans. They are powered by 10 Magnum Cap 10 kW bi-directional charging stations and aggregated by Nuvve’s GIVe platform.

The solution bid on Frequency Containment Reserves service to the Danish TSO – Energinet on current market conditions without any government subsidies.

The installation has now successfully been operating for almost 6 years and logged more than 350,000 EV hours of advanced grid services (118 hours per EV per week).

INVENT – Intelligent Electric Vehicle Integration

A California Energy Commission Project

The INVENT project demonstrated solutions that yield and quantify multiple real-world benefits of advanced  vehicle-grid integration (VGI) applications for  electric vehicle fleets and pave the way for commercial large-scale deployments in California.

The project will test V1G (commute fleet – workplace charging) as well as V2G (work fleet – facilities management) and foresees up to 50 EVs. Grid services as well as behind-the-meter services will be tested and focus will be on VGI economics and how to remove regulatory barriers for large scale deployment.

The project partners include Nuvve, Hitachi, Strategen, UCSD and the fleets consist of: Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi Outlander, Bolt, Tesla, Smart EV and BMW i3 .

The project is funded by the California Energy Commission(CEC) as part of the EPIC program. It started in 2017 and will end in December 2020.  

The partner from Next-Dimension (as previous employee of Nuvve)was the key player in making this project happen together with strong support from UCSD.
